Another milestone, Facebook celebrates 9th birthday
Baku, February 4 (AZERTAC). The world's most popular social networking site, Facebook, on Monday turned nine.
Today, the Facebook has over one billion active users and the counting is going on rapidly.
Mark Zuckerberg and his four friends started Facebook as a sophomore at Harvard University and now it is one of the most popular social networking site in the world.
In March 2004, CEO Zuckerberg launched the expansion of Facebook to other colleges and universities. After three months of expension plan, the headquarter of the Facebook was shifted to Palo Alto in California.
In September 2004: Zuckerberg faced a lawsuit to stole the idea of introducing the Wall facility, which allows people to write personal feelings and other ideas on profile pages.
Later in a bid to further expansion, Facebook allows people to join the social networking website with a corporate email address.
After two years, Facebook introduces most popular feature News Feed.
In May 2007: Facebook starts ‘Platform’, which allows people to develop tools for sharing photos, taking quizzes and playing games.
In October 2007, Microsoft bough stake in Facebook for $240 million and forges advertising partnership.
Facebook unveiled its Beacon program in 2007, which allows broadcasting of people's activities on dozens of outside sites. March 2008: Facebook hires Sheryl Sandberg as chief operating officer, snatching the savvy, high-profile executive from Google Inc.
Facebook’s "Like” feature in 2009. In the same year, Facebook eclipses News Corp.'s Myspace as the leading online social network in the US.
Location feature was added in 2010 to know the exact location of users and friends.
