AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT, RUSSIAN PREMIER MEET
Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev met Tuesday with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin as part of his working visit to Moscow.
Vladimir Putin praised development of intergovernmental relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, in particular in economic and political spheres.
The Russian Premier stressed the role of Azerbaijan`s nationwide leader, late president Heydar Aliyev in developing Russia-Azerbaijan relations.
Mr Putin also touched upon economic difficulties currently facing the world markets, adding “this also has an impact, to some extent, on Russia`s economy.”
“For us Azerbaijan - just as Russia for Azerbaijan - has always been a reliable partner” Vladimir Putin noted.
He also stressed Azerbaijan`s economic growth rate, saying it was 25 percent in 2007 and 18 percent this year - “record figures not only in CIS, but also in the whole world.”
President Ilham Aliyev also described Azerbaijan-Russia relations as “developing successfully”.
“I also want to stress that current relations between our countries were established by you and late President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev” the Azerbaijani leader said.
“Your first visit meeting and later your visit to Azerbaijan - a first official trip by a Russian President to our country - marked a turning point in our relations.”
“We highly praise how much respect you show towards Heydar Aliyev in Moscow, in particular holding his anniversary celebrations, and giving his name to one of stations of the Baikal-Amur railroad, the event which was marked by a touching ceremony.”
President Ilham Aliyev said both Azerbaijan and Russia are amongst most dynamically developing countries in the post-Soviet space in terms of political and economic achievements.
