AZERBAIJAN TO HOST 35th ANNUAL MEETING OF IDB BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Ashgabat, June 9 (AZERTAC). The next annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) will be held in Baku next year. The decision was adopted at the board`s 34th gathering in Turkmenistan`s capital, in which Azerbaijan`s delegation was led by minister of economic development Shahin Mustafayev.

In his speech to the event, Mustafayev highlighted Azerbaijan`s investment opportunities, economic potential and foreign financial relations.

The meeting approved financial reports of the IDB`s affiliate institutions and heard proposals to admit new members. The bank also decided to grant loans to several member states.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Mustafayev met with IDB president Ahmad Mohammad Ali to thank him “for choosing Azerbaijan a venue for the next gathering of the bank`s board of governors”.

The IDB chief vowed further financial assistance to implementing projects in Azerbaijan, in particular that aimed at constructing a municipal waste processing factory.

The Azeri minister also met with delegates of several participant countries to explore prospects for developing bilateral relations.

The Islamic Development Bank is an international financial institution established in pursuance of the Declaration of Intent issued by the Conference of Finance Ministers of Muslim Countries held in Jeddah in December 1973.

The purpose of the Bank is to foster the economic development and social progress of member countries and Muslim communities individually, as well as jointly, in accordance with the principles of Islamic Law.
