Azerbaijan to host CISM World Football Trophy 2013
Baku, February 27 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan and the International Military Sports Council (CISM) have agreed to hold the 1st CISM World Football Trophy 2013 in Baku as the country`s Deputy Defense Minister Chingiz Mammadov and CISM president Hamad Kalkaba Malboum signed an agreement in Baku Wednesday.
Speaking to the signing ceremony, Mammadov said the tournament would take place between June 30 and July 16.
“We are very happy that the International Military Sports Council entrusted the holding of the World Football Trophy to Azerbaijan. And now our task is to ensure that the tournament is perfectly organized,” said the Deputy Minister.
“The Organizing Committee consisting of representatives of the Defense Ministry, Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as association of national football federations has already been set up.”
Mammadov said that 16 CISM member states and about 500 sportsmen and 100 delegates were expected to visit the capital Baku for the event.
He added the matches would be held at Shafa, Dalga, Bayil and Zira stadiums.
Kalkaba Malboum said the trophy was planned two years ago: “Our trophies bring together thousands of servicemen and aim to establish friendship. We are soldiers, who protect the peace. The soldiers can show themselves through sports. Azerbaijan`s assistance in organizing this trophy shows that it is a peace-loving country. Together with our thousands of sportsmen we will attend competitions here in the future.”
Azerbaijan has been a member of the International Military Sports Council since 1995 and has won a total of 175 medals in CISM trophies so far.
The draw of the Football Trophy will be held on April 29, while the opening and closing ceremonies are due on July 2 and July 14 respectively.
