AZERBAIJAN WELCOMES G-8 JOINT STATEMENT ON NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT
Baku, July 20 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan welcomes a joint statement made by Presidents of USA, Russia and France on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at the G-8 meeting in L`Aquila, Italy.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted this statement shows that G-8 is interested in solving the problem and not keeping the status quo.
Minister said some hope emerged for resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict after the regional visit of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and meeting mediated by Russian President. Moscow meeting discussed some details of the “Madrid principles”. It means Armenian troops` leaving Azerbaijani occupied lands and Azerbaijani IDPs` returning to their homes come first. Afterwards, Azerbaijani and Armenian communities intensify contacts. The status will be determined later.
According to Mammadyarov, Azerbaijan would like to give a highest status to Nagorno-Karabakh within territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
