Azerbaijani and Italian Interior Ministries sign cooperation agreement
Baku, November 6 (AZERTAC). The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan and Italian Ministry of Interior have signed an agreement of cooperation on the sidelines of the 81st INTERPOL General Assembly in Rome, Italy.
Prior to the signing ceremony, Mr. Usubov met his Italian counterpart Anna Maria Cancellieri.
He briefed Anna Maria Cancellieri on strengthening of Azerbaijan`s state independence and democratic principles, establishment of strong state against the background of the law, world and economy, as well as progress achieved on improvement of legal mechanisms for regulating social relations.
The Azeri Minister hailed the expansion of relations between the two countries in all spheres, stressing the importance of development of the bilateral cooperation in the law enforcement sphere.
Anna Maria Cancellieri praised relations between the two countries, noting Italy was ready for further durable cooperation with Azerbaijan.
The Azeri Minister also held working meetings with heads of several countries` delegations.
Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Italy Vagif Sadigov was present at the meetings.
The 81st INTERPOL General Assembly has opened with a ministerial meeting bringing together justice, security and home affairs ministers from some 100 countries. The theme for discussion is ‘Challenges for police facing contemporary criminal violence’. Police chiefs and other senior law enforcement officials from around the world discussed critical challenges for police in responding to current and developing criminal phenomena and shared best practices based on national and international experience.
The General Assembly is composed of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries. As INTERPOL`s supreme governing body, it meets once a year and takes all the major decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programmes of activities. It also elects the Organization's Executive Committee. Generally speaking, the Assembly takes decisions by a simple majority in the form of resolutions.
The same day, the Azerbaijani delegation laid a wreath at a monument to great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi in Rome.
