AZERBAIJANI FM HOLDS MEETINGS ON SIDELINES OF UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY`S 63RD SESSION
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly`s 63rd session, Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met Monday with his Croatian counterpart Gordan Jandrokovic to discuss bilateral relationships, regional and international issues.
Speaking on regional conflicts, Mr. Mammadyarov said the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict poses a strict threat to regional security.
He added the dispute settlement must be based on strict maintenance of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
Gordan Jandrokovic noted his country backs Azerbaijan`s fair position on the issue. He also stressed the necessity of enhancing Azerbaijan-Croatia economic relations.
E. Mammadyarov also met with foreign ministers of Luxemburg, Georgia and Ukraine. The talks focused on regional and international, as well as energy-related issues.
The Azerbaijani Minister said establishing stability in the region depends on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He described Turkey-proposed “Caucasus Stability and Cooperation Platform” as an interesting and positive initiative.
Mammadyarov discussed with his Georgian counterpart energy and transport projects between the two countries.
His talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister mainly focused on joint cooperation within GUAM.
The same day, E. Mammadyarov met with members of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) to discuss regional and international issues.
AJC members remembered their recent visit to Baku stressing the trip made on them great impression.
The Azerbaijani Minister also attended a dinner hosted by U.S. President George Bush and his spouse Laura Bush.
