AZERBAIJANI, UZBEK PRESIDENTS GIVE JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE
Tashkent, September 27 (AZERTAC). Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan have made joint media statements in Tashkent.
The Uzbek President praised President Ilham Aliyev`s visit to Tashkent, calling it a success. Islam Karimov said Uzbekistan regarded friendly Azerbaijan its major partner in the region. He said his country had always backed Azerbaijan`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adding “Uzbekistan`s stance on the issue remains unchanged”.
President Karimov highlighted Azerbaijan`s and Uzbekistan`s economic achievements, saying there was a big potential to expand the bilateral economic cooperation.
The Uzbek President praised Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in developing the relations between the two countries.
President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan regarded Uzbekistan a brotherly and friendly country, noting the two nations were bound by close ties of history and culture. The Azerbaijani leader praised Uzbekistan`s role both in the region and on the international scale.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked Uzbekistan for supporting Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Head of State praised Uzbekistan`s backing Azerbaijan`s position during the voting on a relevant resolution at the UN General Assembly in 2008.
The President vowed Azerbaijan would always support brotherly Uzbekistan on the international level.
