Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Syria and employees of embassy leave country
Baku, August 7 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Syria Mahir Aliyev and employees of the embassy left the country in connection with the current situation there.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, 60 citizens of the country have also left Syria.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria has exceeded 16,000 people. About 230,000 people became refugees. About three million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say that they oppose the well-armed militants.
Kofi Annan peace plan for Syria or the six-point peace plan for Syria is considered the most serious international attempt to resolve the Syrian uprising in the Middle East diplomatically. The peace plan enforced a cease-fire to take place across Syria though in reality the cease-fire was announced by the Syrian government on 14 April.
Following the Houla massacre and the consequent Free Syrian Army (FSA) ultimatum to the Syrian government, the cease-fire practically collapsed towards the end of May, as the FSA began nation-wide offensives against the government troops. Following a prolonging discourse of the peace mission, Kofi Annan resigned on August 2, 2012.
