Azerbaijan`s parliament ratifies Azerbaijan-Turkey gas sale and transportation documents
Baku, November 21 (AZERTAC). The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has ratified the Turkey-Azerbaijan natural gas sale, transportation and transit agreements. The first agreement envisages sale of natural gas to Turkey, transit of gas from Azerbaijan via Turkey and construction of the new pipeline for gas shipment via Turkey. The second one provides for transit of gas of Azerbaijan and gas transit via Azerbaijan to Turkey through the Trans-Anatolian pipeline.
Deputy Speaker of the MIlli Majlis and chairman of the committee for natural resources, energy and environment Valeh Alasgarov pointed out that the first document was signed in October 2011 in Izmir, Turkey, while the second one in June 2012 in Istanbul. The aim of the projects is the sale, shipment, protection of the gas extracted in Azerbaijan and put for sale in the Turkish market, and construction and legal property of the gas pipeline.
The second document is an important step towards transporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Gas shipped from Azerbaijan to Turkey can be exported to other countries.
Since the gas is the wealth of Azerbaijan, the country retains the right concerning other issues related to the gas sale.
