AZERI OMBUDSPERSON MEETS RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR

Baku, 22 August (AZERTAC). Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova has met Friday with Russian ambassador Vladimir Dorokhin.

Suleymanova extended condolences to the ambassador over the human loss caused by the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Station and terror act in Nazran.

On relationship between the Ombudsman Offices of Azerbaijan and Russia, Suleymanova said the two structures had signed an agreement on bilateral human rights cooperation.

The Commissioner said in the wake of Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan, human rights of thousands of Azerbaijanis had been infringed.

She also briefed the ambassador on the work done in her country to ensure and protect the rights of refugees and IDPs.

Vladimir Dorokhin, in turn, said the Embassy “is willing to closely cooperate with Azerbaijan`s Ombudsman Office”.

The ambassador also praised national and religious tolerance in Azerbaijan saying he had not faced discrimination against Russians living in the country since he started work as an ambassador.
