AzerTAc, AFI donate books on Azerbaijan to Stockholm Central Library
Stockholm, December 15 (AZERTAC). Books on history, culture and arts of Azerbaijan as well as fairytales and fables printed in the Azerbaijani language were passed to the Stockholm Central Library`s international department with organizational assistance and initiation of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AZERTAC) and Azerbaijan-Sweden Federation. AZERTAC`s representatives Elshan Shahbalayev and Aygun Hasanova, also AFI head Sattar Sevgin have presented the books to the library. Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s “Azerbaijani carpets” collection, samples of classic literature, Azerbaijani-English-Russian phrasebook and other publications were amongst them.
“The library established in 2000, have gathered books in nearly 130 world`s languages. There are also samples of Azerbaijani literature amongst them,” international literature department`s head Reza Sharifzade told.
“Those books are mainly obtained due to the financial funds of the library itself. Interest to the Azeri literature has recently grown with the increase of Azerbaijani readers visiting the library” Sharifzade said.
He told they are getting inquiries from different Swedish libraries for the Azerbaijani literature, but they can`t sustain the readers` requirements because of the lack of the needed literature.
“Lately we are facing a big demand for the novels, stories, novellas and poems in Azerbaijani language. We`d like to obtain the works by contemporary Azerbaijani writers and poets` especially. Moreover, we feel the lack in the Azerbaijani books on psychology, philosophy and sociopolitical journalism. Mainly there is a need for the books written in the Latin alphabet, but books in the Cyrillic and Arabian Azerbaijani are also inquired by the readers”, he told.
According to Sharifzade, Azerbaijanis residing in Sweden are interested in works of poets and writers such as Anar, Elchin, Chingiz Abdullayev, Ramiz Rovshan, Vagif Samadoglu, adding “we hope to get those publications by the help of AFI and AZERTAC”.
Mr. Sharifzade introduced the Azerbaijani department of the library to the guests. “There are 600 hundred books, and CD`s of Azerbaijani mugham, classical, national music”.
Sharifzade thanked AZERTAC and AFI for the books donated to the library and expressed his hope for the continuing of this cooperation in the years ahead.
