Baku hosts 45th General Meeting of Intercable International Association
Baku, May 22 (AZERTAC). The 45th General Meeting of the Intercable International Association has kicked off in Baku.
The four-day meeting includes a symposium on “Telecommunication cables - prospects of future development”.
Addressing the opening ceremony, president of the Intercable International Association Izyaslav Peshkov said the meeting brought together representatives of 91 companies from 21 countries.
He praised Azerbaijan`s potential in non-oil field, and said the country has “huge and strong plants with state-of-art equipments”.
Recalling his visits to the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial and High-Tech Park, he said the facility could be considered one of the hugest technological parks in Europe.
Azerbaijani deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov highlighted development of the non-oil sector in the country.
President of Azerenerji, Azerbaijan`s largest energy company, Etibar Pirverdiyev said Cable Plant of the Sumgait Technologies Park, which was commissioned in 2009, is the biggest cable producing plant in the region.
Prior to the meeting, the participants visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader, founder and architect of the modern Azerbaijani state Heydar Aliyev.
They also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva. The participants then visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity, and laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.
