Chief of Azerbaijan State Border Service visits Poland
Baku, April 19 (AZERTAC). Chief of the Azerbaijan State Border Service, Lieutenant General Elchin Guliyev and his accompanying delegation visited Poland at the invitation of Ilkka Laitinen, Executive Director of Frontex, the European Union's border protection agency.
In their meeting with Ilkka Laitinen at Frontex`s headquarters, the parties exchanged views on border security, as well as prospects of cooperation in the fields of fighting against the illegal migration and other cross-border crime.
They stressed the importance of boosting cooperation under of the international conference on border issues.
The sides signed a working agreement on practical cooperation.
The Azerbaijani delegation also became familiar with the activity of Frontex.
Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Poland Hasan Hasanov was also present at the meeting.
The Azerbaijani delegation has also attended EUROPOLTECH exhibition, which aims to support technological upgrade processes in the Polish Police services, Special Operations Command and national security services.
Frontex is the European Union agency for external border security. It is responsible for co-ordinating the activities of the national border guards in ensuring the security of the EU's borders with non-member states. Frontex is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland.
Frontex' mission is to help EU Member States implement EU rules on external border controls and to coordinate operational cooperation between Member States in the field of external border management. While it remains the task of each member state to control its own borders, the Agency is vested with the function to ensure that they all do so with the same high standard of efficiency.
