EIGHTH ISLAMIC CONFERENCE OF INFORMATION MINISTERS WRAPS UP IN RABAT
Baku, 28 January (AZERTAC). The 8th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers ended Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco.
The conference brought together ministers from 57 Islamic states and representatives from other international organizations.
The purpose of the event was to coordinate activities of OIC member states` mass media.
Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu updated the conference participants on the works done in the mentioned sphere and the tasks set forth in the Moslem countries.
He also spoke of the role of the organization in rebuilding information system in Islamic countries. He stressed the necessity of strengthening of media cooperation among Moslem countries. Ihsanoglu also spoke of the importance of information in intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by a delegation led by Head of the Public-Political Department of President`s Office Ali Hasanov.
In his remarks, Hasanov, in particular, spoke of the importance of this authoritative assembly and the role of information in the globalized world.
He also briefed the participants on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and its grave consequences.
He appealed to the ministers to spare no efforts to make the world community more aware of realities on the conflict.
Head of the Azerbaijan delegation offered to jointly use the ICT of the Moslem countries to bring the events taken place in any Moslem state, especially, the aggression against sovereignty of any country, to the notice of world community, and proposed the question to be included into the Final Resolution of the Conference. He also suggested the OIC countries` media outlets and news agencies coordinated their activities. The matter has to be lifted before the OIC Secretariat.
Touching upon the problems in the field of information, speakers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Iran and Kuwait, stressed necessity of delivering realities on Islam to the world community, condemning Israel`s attack against the Palestinian people, expanding relations between the Moslem and Western countries.
During the visit Ali Hasanov met with Moroccan Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi and Communications Minister Khalid Nasiri and other officials of Islamic countries to discuss cooperation in the sphere of exchange of information.
