INTERIOR MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS HEAD OF ODIHR ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION
Interior Minister Ramil Usubov met Wednesday with Head of ODIHR`s election observation mission to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Boris Frlec and mission`s security expert Emil Pyrich
Minister said the processes of strengthening democracy and sovereignty and improving legal mechanisms of social relations regulation are successfully going on in Azerbaijan. The Government has done much work to bring Interior Ministry`s work in line with international standards. The new democratic laws on human rights have been adopted.
Then, the OSCE delegation was briefed on the police` tasks during the upcoming October 2008 presidential elections.
Ramil Usubov noted Interior Ministry has prepared a special Action Plan and sent it to the regional police offices. 3 trainings on how to implement the action plan were held for police officers.
Minister reported that a meeting on the amendments to the law on freedom of assembly was held on August 28 with police chiefs in attendance. Moreover, international experts conducted training on elections and police on September 8 at the Police Academy.
Interior Minister said Baku mayor`s office had defined eleven places in Baku for staging rallies.
Boris Frlec said he is satisfied with dynamic development in Azerbaijan. He told of the work to be done by the mission.
