Measles situation in Kyrgyzstan remains tense

The measles situation in Kyrgyzstan remains tense, Kabar reported citing the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis of the country’s Ministry of Health.
According to data of the Immunoprophylaxis Center, 2,046 cases of measles have been registered in the country as of February 10, 2025.
Of these, 1,972 patients (96%) were not vaccinated: 695 cases were not vaccinated due to age (34%), 889 cases due to refusal (43%), 29 cases due to migration (1%), 219 cases due to medical exemptions (11%), 140 cases with unknown vaccination status (7%).
The situation with measles in the republic remains tense. The main increase in cases is observed in the city of Bishkek, where 1,291 cases have been registered, which is 62% of the total. The main reason for the increase in cases remains the large number of refusals from routine immunization against measles and rubella among children, the Immunoprophylaxis Center noted.
The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has strengthened preventive and anti-epidemiological measures to combat measles.
On January 8, 2025, a meeting of the Coordination Council on Public Health was held, where the current situation with measles in the Kyrgyz Republic was discussed and a decision was made to vaccinate children aged 1-5 years who had not been immunized.
On February 6-7, a training session was held to increase public confidence in immunization for media representatives.
