Norway Unemployment Rate Unexpectedly increases to 3%
Baku, February 4 (AZERTAC). Norway`s unemployment unexpectedly fell in the December quarter as a boom in the country`s oil and gas sector soaked up available labor.
The seasonally-adjusted jobless rate fell to 3 percent in the August to October period from 3.1 percent, Statistics Norway said today. The median estimate of eight economists in a Bloomberg survey was for a rate of 3.1 percent.
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 157,000 in January, and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 7.9 percent. Retail trade, construction, health care, and wholesale trade added jobs over the month.

In January, 2.4 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force, down by 366,000 from a year earlier (not seasonally adjusted.) These individuals were not in the labor force, wanted and were available for work, and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months.
