POLISH PRESIDENT LECH KACZYNSKI AWARDED HEYDAR ALIYEV ORDER
Baku, 2 July, (AZERTAC). President of Poland Lech Kaczynski has been awarded the Heydar Aliyev Order, the highest state award of Azerbaijan, for his services in developing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.
The award was presented to the Polish leader by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a ceremony on Thursday.
President ILHAM ALIYEV said:
-Mr. President, it is my pleasure to present the Heydar Aliyev order, the highest state award of Azerbaijan, to you. You are a close friend of the people of Azerbaijan and you have particular services in developing the Poland-Azerbaijan relations. Your initiatives were a great contribution to energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Poland and, in a broad sense, to Europe`s energy affairs. This is your fifth visit to Azerbaijan in three years, and it is a vivid evidence of strong relations between the two countries.
You have always supported Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and the people of Azerbaijan are grateful to you for this.
I wish you strong health and successes in your work.
And now let me present you with this high award.

Ladies and gentlemen!
It is a great honor for me to accept this order from you, Mr. President, since it is the symbol of Azerbaijan`s independence. You country gained independence just at the same time when our country did. This independence marked crucial, fundamental changes in the life of both the people of Azerbaijan and Poland. I have been involved in politics for many long years. I was elected president in my country and one of my priorities was building relations with countries that gained their independence 18 years ago and embarked on the development path. This was also the triumph of those who supported interests of Azerbaijan and Poland. At the same time, another important thing was that both big and small nations had full rights to autonomy and independence.
Let me say just a few words about the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. I myself have no doubts on this issue. Forced violation of territorial integrity of any country is unacceptable. No one should act under the flag of even the most powerful patron. I know that it is how this story happened. Of course, I support a peaceful solution to the problem. And, in reality, this is the only way to solve the dispute. The rights of minorities must be protected, but Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity must be ensured, restored.
