Stockholm, May 12, AZERTAC
The documentary film “The Homeland in Memory” by Swedish photographer and director Mikael Silkeberg dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was screened at the Filmstaden Sergel cinema in Stockholm.
The event, organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Sweden, brought together members of the diplomatic corps accredited in this country, Gulchin Gasimova, a representative of the “Disabled Women’s Society” Public Union from Azerbaijan, members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities, as well as Swedes interested in the history and culture of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Sweden Zaur Ahmadov emphasized that the cherished memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev is always commemorated with great respect and reverence both in Azerbaijan and beyond its borders.
“As President Ilham Aliyev mentioned, Heydar Aliyev’s soul is at peace, for today’s Azerbaijan is his masterpiece. The liberation of our native lands from occupation under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and the fact that our flag is flying proudly in Khankendi today, have increased our sense of pride,” the ambassador noted.
Mikael Silkeberg, the author of the documentary, said the film “The Homeland in Memory” is dedicated to the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Azerbaijanis who were forcibly displaced from Western Azerbaijan, as well as to how a person cherishes the memory of his homeland through art and traditions while living abroad.
