Azerbaijani, Slovakian parliaments ink Memorandum of Understanding

As part of Speaker of Slovakia's National Council Richard Raši’s visit to Azerbaijan, a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries’ legislative authorities was signed on Wednesday.
The document was formalized by Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis, and Richard Raši, Speaker of Slovakia's National Council.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the delegation led by Speaker of Slovakia's National Council Richard Raši visited the Milli Majlis.
First, Speaker Richard Raši familiarized himself with the plenary hall of the Milli Majlis. The delegation also viewed the memorial hall named after National Leader Heydar Aliyev, displaying exhibits highlighting the life and political activity of the National Leader.
The Speakers then held an expanded meeting.
Recalling her official visit to Slovakia, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova hailed the meetings held during that visit. Noting that it is the first visit of the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic to Azerbaijan in this capacity, Sahiba Gafarova stated that this visit indicated the continued progress in interparliamentary relations between the two countries.
Touching upon the interparliamentary ties, the Speaker mentioned the special role of reciprocal visits and the parliamentary friendship groups.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis also briefed the guest on the history, current structure and activities of the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
Speaker Richard Raši shared impressions from his visit to Azerbaijan and his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev held today. He stressed the immense importance of President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Slovakia in December 2025 as the first official visit of President of Azerbaijan to Slovakia.
The Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia also underlined the significance of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) due in Baku next week.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on prospects for advancing relations between the two countries in economic, educational, cultural, defence, energy security and other spheres.
