TRANSNATIONAL EURASIAN SUPER INFORMATION HIGHWAY PROJECT DISCUSSED AT UN GENEVA OFFICE
Baku, July 20 (AZERTAC). The Transnational Eurasian Super Information Highway project was discussed at the UN Geneva Office at the initiate of the Azerbaijan government, according to the Foreign Ministry`s press service. The meeting was chaired by Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Switzerland, head of Azerbaijan permanent mission to the UN Geneva Office and other international organizations Elchn Amirbeyov.
The discussions were attended by Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev and Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union Hamadoun Toure.
Minister provided information about the project, which aims at filling existing gaps between Western Europe and Pacific ocean basin countries. He noted project would help implement Millennium Development Goals
Mammadguliyev told of the Azerbaijan government`s plans concerning the resolution to be put forward at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly and aims of the document.
ITU Secretary General Toure hailed Azerbaijan government`s initiative.
As part of the visit, Azerbaijan delegation had a couple of bilateral meetings including that with World Economic Forum`s regional director for Europe and Central Asia.
