US embassy to Azerbaijan celebrates Independence Day
Baku, July 4 (AZERTAC). The embassy of the U.S to Azerbaijan organized Tuesday an official reception to mark the country`s Independence Day.
Opening the event, Chargé d`Affaires of the U.S. embassy Adam Sterling said the Independence Day was a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
He noted Azerbaijan was an important partner to the USA.
Sterling said Azerbaijan and the U.S. were closely cooperating in fighting terrorism.
The Chargé d`Affaires noted the USA supports peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He also highlighted Azerbaijan`s achievements in 2012.
Azerbaijan`s Finance Minister Samir Sharifov congratulated the event participants on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev.
The Minister said Azerbaijan-US relations were steadily developing within international organizations.
Sharifov noted this year the 20th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan-US diplomatic relations was marked.
The Finance Minister said Azerbaijan had always attached great importance to relations with the USA.
The event brought together Azerbaijani state and government officials, MPs, ambassadors of foreign countries and members of the general public.
