African Lion Military Exercises to Kick Off in Morocco on Monday
Baku, June 21, AZERTAC
June 20 marks the beginning of military exercises for the African Lion 2022 in several cities across Morocco, according to Morocco World News.
The Spanish news agency reported today that the US and Morocco will celebrate the military maneuvers, starting tomorrow in different cities across the North African country.
The military maneuvers program will take place from June 20-30 in Kenitra, Agadir, Tan Tan, Taroudant, and Mahbes.
This year’s military exercise will include Mahbes, in southern Morocco. The inclusion of Mahbes as one of the locations for the military drilling mirrors the US position in supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.
The military exercise will include 7,500 army personnel from nearly 20t countries, including Morocco and the US.
The US Armed Forces Central Command for Africa (AFRICOM) is promising a large event as part of the participants’ commitment to strengthen mobilization and vigilance against security threats -- particularly terrorism.
In a report published earlier today, EFE quoted AFRICOM as saying that the 2022 African Lion will include inter-army exercises in various land, air, and maritime operation areas.
