BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON 75th BIRTHDAY OF ACADEMICIAN ARIF PASHAYEV
Baku, 12 February (AZERTAC). A 3-day conference on the theme “Scientific and Technological Advance and Modern Aviation” dedicated to the 75th birthday of Academician Arif Pashayev, Rector of the Azerbaijan National Aviation Academy, commenced here today at the Holiday Inn hotel.
The conference brings together over 200 scientists and experts from Azerbaijan, Turkey, USA, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Israel, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Japan and other countries.
An opening ceremony on the occasion was attended by daughter of Arif Pashayev Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva, the president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, and other members of his family.
Co-chairing the conference president of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Jahangir Asgarov made opening speech.
He described Arif Pahayev as one of the most prominent representatives of Azerbaijan`s intellectual elite. Jahangir Asgarov highly praised his organizational skills, dwelling on the positive changes occurred at the Aviation Academy since Arif Pashayev took the office as its Rector. He noted that as a result of Arif Pashayev`s efforts, the Academy now has five faculties and twenty departments, and offers twenty three disciplines taught in Azerbaijani language. Asgarov also announced that on the instruction of the Head of State, modern aircraft flight simulators will be installed at the Academy until the end of this year.
Also speaking to the conference were Academician Arif Pashayev, Rector of the Azerbaijan National Aviation Academy, Academician Mahmud Karimov, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Prof. Nargiz Pashayeva, Rector of the Baku branch of the Moscow State University, Prof. Roald Sagdeyev, University of Maryland, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vitaliy Aristov, correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and others.
The conference continued with panel discussions.
