Baku hosts international conference on nuclear energy
Baku, November 21 (AZERTAC). Baku on Wednesday hosted a conference dedicated to the Prospects for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The conference was co-organized by the National Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Institute of Radiation Problems.
In his opening speech, President of the National Academy of Sciance, academician Mahmud Karimov said the conference is organized in Baku for the fifth time and has brought together scientists and experts from 16 countries this year.
Then director of the Institute of Radiation Problems, Adil Garibov gave a presentation on theme "The work carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes."
Garibov stressed that one of the main goals of the Institute is to develop the scientific and technical base for the use of nuclear energy in Azerbaijan for peaceful purposes as a source of alternative energy. According to Garibov, since joining the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2001, Azerbaijan jointly with the IAEA and other international organizations contributed to the implementation of national and regional projects.
The Conference heard the reports from the Director of the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology of Warsaw, Professor Andrzezh Chmilevsky, Executive Secretary of the CIS Committee on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes Evgeniy Sobolev, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of Azerbaijan Republic, corresponding member of ANAS Vali Huseynov and other delegates from Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The three-day event will feature 100 reports.
