FLAGS LOWERED TO MARK 19th ANNIVERSARY OF JANUARY 20 TRAGEDY
Baku, January 20 (AZERTAC). State flags were lowered throughout Azerbaijan today to mark the 19th anniversary of January 20, 1990 tragedy.
People in Azerbaijan continue remembering horrors of that day when Soviet army invaded Baku killing and injuring hundreds of innocent and defenseless people, and express hatred for the executors of these murderous deeds.
The death toll from the tragedy ordered by leadership of the former Soviet Union, in particular Mikhail Gorbachov, was 140 people killed, 744 wounded, and 841 illegally arrested in Baku and other regions of the country.
Red army units demolished 200 houses and 80 vehicles, and a large number of public and private properties.
