HEYDAR ALIYEV FOUNDATION RECONSTRUCTS ST. MARY`S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN BAKU
Baku, 7 July (AZERTAC). The Heydar Aliyev Foundation-funded reconstruction of the St. Mary`s Catholic Church has been completed in Azerbaijan`s capital.
The church was reconstructed in accordance with an agreement between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Catholic community in the country signed as part of the foundation`s “Azerbaijan - home to tolerance” project.
Vatican`s apostolic nuncio to Azerbaijan, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s Executive Director Anar Alakbarov and head of the St. Mary`s Catholic Church Jan Capla have today inspected the church after the major overhaul.
The reconstruction saw the change of the church`s ceiling and facade.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been funding reconstruction of religious monuments across the country since 2006.
Last year an Orthodox church was reconstructed in Baku as part of the “Azerbaijan - home to tolerance” project.
The foundation also funded part of reconstruction at the 14th century-Strasbourg Cathedral in France.
