Microscopic Research and Microbiology Laboratories Commissioned at BEU
Baku, February 23, AZERTAC
The material and technical base of the Biology Laboratories at Baku Engineering University (BEU) has been significantly strengthened, and their operations have been restructured to meet modern challenges. Now operating under the names Microscopic Research and Microbiology, these scientific facilities will provide students and staff with the opportunity to conduct a broader range of scientific research and practical sessions.
BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev and Adil Allahverdiyev, Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Medical Preventive Medicine named after V.Y. Akhundov under the Ministry of Health, familiarized themselves with the laboratories, received information on the scientific research and practical sessions conducted there, and spoke with students, expressing interest in their academic activities.

Yagub Piriyev drew attention to the work carried out in recent years to organize research and practical sessions at a high level in BEU's laboratories. He noted that supporting the academic activities of students and young researchers is one of the university's key priorities. He stated that strengthening the material and technical base expands research opportunities for students and academic staff, enabling them to study modern biological and biotechnological research methods, develop their scientific skills in a practical manner, and work on specific projects, while also enhancing BEU's scientific potential and fostering an innovative learning environment.

Institute Director Adil Allahverdiyev, for his part, emphasized that the restructuring of the laboratory and its equipping with modern apparatus will increase the efficiency of scientific research. He underscored the importance of developing students' practical and experimental skills and noted that the laboratory conditions are conducive to both students and researchers.
During the familiarization visit, it was noted that the laboratories provide students with the opportunity to study the structure and functions of tissues, cells, and microorganisms with a high degree of precision. The facilities have been designed to accommodate training sessions, seminars, and research across various disciplines. The laboratories are also equipped with the latest instruments and apparatus for the experimental sections of biological disciplines and for students' independent scientific research. Specifically, the laboratories feature a thermal incubator ensuring a stable temperature regime for cultivating microorganisms and cell cultures, a vertical autoclave for sterilizing culture media and laboratory equipment, a fluorescent trinocular microscope, and other cutting-edge technological apparatus. Equipped with a laminar flow system to maintain a sterile research environment, the laboratories are of significant importance in terms of expanding the scope of ongoing scientific projects, establishing a research environment in line with international standards, and enhancing students' practical skills. Furthermore, specialized lighting at workstations, a centralized electrical supply system, shelf design, and the optimal placement of laboratory sets ensure the effectiveness of practical sessions.

It was also noted that in recent years, BEU has introduced several new degree programs, including Biotechnology and Food Engineering, which are attracting growing interest from high-scoring applicants. The upgraded infrastructure of the Biology Laboratories will contribute to the development of practical skills among students enrolled in these programs.
