US Embassy in Baku hosts Iftar party
Baku, August 18 (AZERTAC). Embassy of the United States in Baku has hosted an iftar ceremony attended by Azerbaijani officials, head of the Caucasian Muslims` Board Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, heads and representatives of religious confessions in Azerbaijan, heads of the diplomatic corps in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chargé d`Affaires of the U.S. embassy Adam Sterling congratulated the event participants and Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
“It is a great honor to come together with you in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan. This celebration is one of my favorite events hosted by our embassy each year,” Sterling noted.
The Chargé d`Affaires said: “It is a chance to celebrate our shared values and to honor the traditions of religious tolerance and respect in Azerbaijan. For centuries, Muslims, Christians and Jews have lived side-by-side in Azerbaijan. Through these years, they have always offered their famous hospitality to guests regardless of faith, race or creed. Today, the world is in great need of such examples of friendship and tolerance among faiths.”
He said U.S. President Barack Obama also hosted his annual Iftar party at the White House last week, adding Azerbaijan`s Chargé d`Affaires in Washington Fakhraddin Ismayilov attended the event.
