FILM BY AZERBAIJANI MOVIEMAKERS NOMINATED FOR OSCAR
Baku, 24 January (AZERTAC). A record 67 countries including Azerbaijan have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 81st Academy Awards (Oscar). Azerbaijan has submitted the film “Gala” (“Fortress”) by Shamil Najafzade, produced by “Azerbaijanfilm” Studio in partnership with the United Multimedia Profile Company.
The film starring Rasim Balayev and Firangiz Mutallibova is based on a screenplay by Azerbaijani poet Ramiz Rovshan.
The list of 67 submissions will be pruned to 9 "finalists". Oscar nominations were announced in all categories January 22, 2009.
