Baku, May 21, AZERTAC
As part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, an event on housing crisis management, the local implementation of global commitments, and inclusive urban development was held at the Azerbaijan Pavilion.
Tural Aliyev, a researcher at the University of Geneva said that the main objective was to establish a link between discussions on global housing governance and the challenges cities face when turning multilateral commitments into practical policies.
According to him, special attention was given during the session to the role of youth, students, and future city leaders in shaping more inclusive housing policies.
Tural Aliyev emphasized that the discussions covered issues related to land management, the institutional capacity of municipalities, public participation, and the provision of accessible and sustainable housing.
The session featured a presentation on the main challenges existing in Azerbaijan’s housing sector. This was followed by a presentation by Anar Valiyev, Associate Professor of Public Affairs at ADA University’s School of Public and International Affairs.
Such platforms are of great importance for strengthening links between international experience and local governance mechanisms, as well as for developing practical solutions for the sustainable development of cities.
