Azerbaijan’s activities within D-8 highly praised after acceding to the organization

On May 20, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Sohail Mahmood, Secretary General of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), who is on a visit to Azerbaijan. The Secretary General expressed gratitude for the high-level organization of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) and the productive discussions held within its framework.
During the meeting, the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and D-8 was discussed, and opportunities for further developing relations in the political, economic, energy, transport, and logistics spheres were considered.
Azerbaijan’s active engagement within the organization in the short period since its accession to D-8 was highly appreciated. The practical steps taken toward organizing D-8 Week in Azerbaijan for the first time in October 2025, as well as the establishment in the country of the D-8 Energy and Climate Center, D-8 Media Excellence Center, and D-8 Transport Excellence Center, were highlighted. The sides exchanged views on ongoing efforts in this regard.
The importance of joint efforts to further enhance the influence of D-8, which unites politically and economically important countries with a population of nearly 1.3 billion and a combined GDP of 5 trillion dollars, was emphasized.
The meeting also reviewed regional and international security issues. The importance of reducing tensions, strengthening the ceasefire, and ensuring stability in the Middle East was highlighted.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
