AZERBAIJANI DELEGATION TAKES PART AT CEREMONY OF FAREWELL WITH PATRIARCH ALEXY II
As earlier reported, the Russian Orthodox Church held a funeral service in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior on Tuesday for the late Patriarch Alexy II. The Azerbaijani delegation comprising the head of the Caucasus Clerical Office Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Polad Bulbuloglu and the Baku and Caspian Bishop Alexander took part at the ceremony of farewell with Patriarch Alexy II.
“Demise of Patriarch Alexy II is a big loss not only for Christian, but also the Muslim world,” the Sheikhulislam said. As he stated, the delegation has visited the Temple of the Christ of the Savior, have paid tribute to the dead, made mournful prayers, and met with the colleagues. A. Pashazade conveyed deep condolences to the Russian people and Orthodox brothers in connection with the death of His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia.
“Patriarch Alexy II was the friend of Azerbaijan, loved our country and invariably regarded our people. The Patriarch of All-Russia was an outstanding and fine person. He always with deep satisfaction recollected the visits to Azerbaijan.”
“Though we belong to different religious faiths, during talks with him we forgot about it. During dialogue there was a common belief in Supreme, and our joint affairs have always been directed on establishment of peace and consent. He made many efforts to return the peace to the Caucasus that the Azerbaijan lands were returned peacefully and the conflict was settled by negotiations,” A. Pashazade underlined.
