AZERBAIJANI FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS CZECH REPUBLIC
Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov made an official visit to the Czech Republic on December 10-11.
On the first day of the trip, Mammadyarov met with Chairman of the Czech Senate Premysl Sobotka. The sides stressed strategic importance of Azerbaijan-Czech relationship during the meeting. They also underlined the necessity of boosting bilateral cooperation even more.
Sobotka praised the level of Azerbaijan-Czechia political, economic and energy cooperation.
He said the Czech Republic would contribute to Azerbaijan-European Union relationship during the country`s six-month rotating EU presidency.
Elmar Mammadyarov, in his turn, praised the level of cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of reciprocal visits by both countries` MPs in enhancing interparliamentary relations.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Minister said the dispute must be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
As part of the visit, Elmar Mammadyarov also met with his Czech counterpart Karel Schwarzenberg. He highly appreciated official Prague`s backing Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
Karel Schwarzenberg called Azerbaijan his country`s strategic partner. He stressed the necessity of expanding economic relations between the two countries.
According to him, opening of the embassy of the Czech Republic in Azerbaijan slated for the next year will contribute to expanding bilateral cooperation even more.
The sides also discussed regional and international issues, mutual cooperation within international organizations.
During the visit, the Azerbaijani Minister also met with Chairman of the Czech Parliament`s House of Representatives Miroslav Vlcek. They underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation in economic, trade and energy areas.
The sides also stressed the need of increasing reciprocal visits by the two countries` parliamentarians.
