Azerbaijan`s Deputy Prime Minister meets MEPs in Baku
Baku, September 1 (AZERTAC). Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov met Friday members of the European Parliament.
Hasanov briefed the delegation on the problems that Azerbaijan faced in the early years of independence. He also spoke of the country`s accomplishments.
The Deputy Prime Minister told on the history and consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, situation of IDPs and the government`s work to solve their social problems.
He said in the wake of Armenia`s aggressive policy 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories was occupied and more than one million Azerbaijanis were driven out from their original lands by force. “Official Yerevan disrespects the documents adopted by international organizations regarding withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories. Official Baku is committed to settlement of the conflict on the basis of norms and principles of international law. But Armenia does not give up its aggressive policy.”
Hasanov attributed Azerbaijan`s securing a seat on UN Security Council to the country`s increasing prestige across the world.
The Committee Chairman stressed the importance of the European Parliament`s visit to Azerbaijan to deliver the reality about Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the world.
MEP from Belgium Alen Detex praised the development processes in Azerbaijan. According to him, Azerbaijan, which is rapidly integrating into Europe, is very important for the EU. “Azerbaijan deserves praise with its important role and increasing prestige in the whole world.” He also noted the delegation would visit Azerbaijan`s regions to become familiar with the situation of IDPs.
The MEP pointed out the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must find soonest and just solution. “Establishment of peace would contribute to development of peace in the region.”
