AZERI DEFENSE MINISTER MEETS WITH TURKISH ARMED FORCES CHIEF OF STAFF
Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Safar Abiyev has met with Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, Army General Ilker Basbug in Baku.
Minister Abiyev pointed to increasingly expanding brotherly relations between the two countries and their armed forces.
“Based on our brotherly peoples` will and desire, this partnership serves our common interests.” he said. On the recent developments in the region, the Colonel General said strengthening ties and combing efforts for dealing with security issues is of special importance today. He mentioned that the moves towards settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict have intensified, noting if the peace talks fail, Azerbaijan would resort to any means to restore its territorial integrity.
Army General Ilker Basbug expressed satisfaction with the fact that he was paying his first foreign trip as Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces to Azerbaijan. He especially mentioned nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev’s “We are one nation, two states” expression.
The parties also discussed Turkey-Azerbaijan military cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
