CEC ENDORSES PLANNED SCHEDULE FOR NATIONWIDE REFERENDUM
At its Tuesday meeting, the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan has approved the planned scheduled for the nationwide referendum on constitutional amendments slated for March 18, 2009.
CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov said at the meeting that a plenary session of the Constitutional Court of the Azerbaijan Republic made judgment on draft act of referendum “on making amendments and supplements” to the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic earlier submitted by the Milli Majlis to the court for a judgment. Afterwards, the Milli Majlis decided to hold the referendum on March 18, 2009.
The CEC meeting was attended by representatives of the UK embassy, International Foundation for Electoral systems, National Democratic Institute and media.
