MILLI MAJLIS SPEAKER MEETS GREEK PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO OSCE
Speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis (Parliament) Ogtay Asadov met Wednesday with visiting Permanent Representative of Greece to the OSCE Ms. Mara Marinaki and her accompanying delegation.
Ogtay Asadov said reciprocal visits by the two countries` Presidents contribute to deepening bilateral cooperation even more.
According to Mr. Asadov, Azerbaijan attaches significant importance to Greece`s support for the country`s integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures.
He also stressed the role of parliaments` in expansion of relations between the two countries.
“There are also great opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the economic, cultural, humanitarian spheres,” Asadov noted.
He stressed Azerbaijan was an attractive country for investors. He also added his country also contributes to strengthening Europe`s energy security.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Speaker said the dispute is a major obstacle to the region`s economic development and realization of global projects. Asadov underlined that Azerbaijan supports the conflict`s settlement on the basis of the principles of international law, but, he added, Armenia does not honor relevant documents adopted by the international organizations.
The Speaker said irresponsible statements issued by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have no contribution to resolution of the conflict.
He expressed hope Greece would spare no efforts to resolve the dispute in accordance with the norms of international law.
Mara Marinaki, in turn, said her country was keen about enhancing cooperation with Azerbaijan.
She praised development processes she eye-witnessed in Azerbaijan.
Ms. Marinaki stressed her country supports settlement of regional conflicts on the basis of the principle of territorial integrity of countries.
They also exchanged views on expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation, implementaion of global projects in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan`s contribution to ensuring European energy security and other issues.
