PACE JANUARY SESSION TO DISCUSS POST-ELECTION SITUATION IN ARMENIA
The January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to be held on January 26-30, 2009 will discuss the abnormal situation in Armenia after presidential election in this country, chairman of the Milli Majlis standing commission on international relations and interparliamentary ties Samad Seyidov said. According to him, the PACE is concerned over this situation.
Despite the warning issued to Yerevan following Armenia trip of PACE human rights representative in mid-2008, the situation did not get better. Therefore, very tense discussions are expected at the January session.
Seyidov noted the session would also look at issue concerning the delay in releasing joint statements by CoE, EU and OSCE observation missions with respect to monitoring of presidential election in Azerbaijan.
CoE observation mission worked out a common stance on the election. The mission faced resistance when they wanted to include their ideas into the document prepared by the OSCE. The bureau and standing committee decided to seriously analyze this kind of relations.
Discussions will address double standard approach of some countries, decisions prepared beforehand and other issues.
