PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV INAUGURATES SANGACHAL POWER STATION
On December 24, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the Sangachal power station constructed in Qaradag district of Baku.
The President toured the station`s facilities including a control room, where he pressed a button symbolizing official launch of the station.
The Head of State spoke to a ceremony on the occasion.
The companies involved in the construction of the 300-megawatt power station, which started in February, 2007, were Wartsila (Finland), ABB (Switzerland), Monolit (United Arab Emirates) and Azenko and Globus (Azerbaijan).
The station designed to strengthen energy security of Baku city and Absheron peninsula will be fueled by gas and black oil. Its main equipment consists of eighteen 17-megawatt units. Electricity generated at the station is delivered to the power grid through six 63-megawatt transformers and six 110-kV power lines.
The station`s facilities also include a 4-km pipeline to deliver natural gas to the station, gas-distributing station, fire extinguishing system, 3-km rail road and a 3-storey office building covering an area of 1400 square meters.
The stations efficiency output is 46.4 percent. Generating 1 kWh of power requires 263 grams of fuel.
Up to 600 people were involved in construction activities. The number of permanent employees in the station is 200.
The area of the station is covered by nearly 10,000 trees and shrubbery.
