PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV: TURKEY-AZERBAIJAN RELATIONS DEVELOPING RAPIDLY
“Relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are very rapidly developing and we will maintain this dynamics in the years to come”, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in a joint briefing with Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul in Ankara on November 5.
The Azerbaijani President said the bilateral cooperation between the two countries had yielded good results in all spheres, stressing that expansion of relations will have a serious and positive impact on the processes taking place in the region.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that the two countries` joint initiatives serve strengthening of peace, expansion of cooperation and establishment of stability in the region. President Ilham Aliyev added this is what the Turkey-initiated Caucasus Stability and Cooperation Platform is also aimed at.
President Ilham Aliyev highly appreciated Turkey`s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying “we look with great hopes at the brotherly country`s initiatives to be more actively involved in the processes taking place in the Caucasus.”
He described the declaration on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict signed in Moscow recently as a good basis for a possible peace agreement, adding “the document supports decisions adopted on the basis of the international legal norms putting emphasis on the stage-by-stage settlement of the issue.”
President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed that “Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity must be restored, aggressors must withdraw from the occupied territories and refugees and IDPs must return to their homes.”
The Head of State also praised the increasing efforts by Russia, the United States and France to resolve the dispute, and expressed hope “it will lead to the settlement of the problem.”
