TO AZERBAIJANIS OF THE WORLD

Dear compatriots!
The World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day, which Azerbaijanis living within and beyond the country`s borders solemnly celebrate every year on the 31st of December, is an embodiment of national unity, love to Azerbaijan, respect to our national and spiritual values and affection for the homeland.
The idea of solidarity of the world Azerbaijanis, which has concerned our fellow countrymen and compatriots across the world for many years, has been elevated to a level of state policy and consistently realized thanks to the historical services of our national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Strengthening, over the past few years, of national self-consciousness and unity of the Azerbaijanis living in foreign countries, of their ties with homeland as well as their being better organized, shows that Diaspora potential has turned into a very important factor.
Successful implementation of the decisions adopted and the tasks set at the 2nd Congress of the World Azerbaijanis held in March of 2006 in Baku, gave a powerful impetus to the processes of Diaspora building and emergence of the ideology of Azerbaijanism based on the national-spiritual and universal values.
Today, the Diaspora-related policy of our state, efforts towards strengthening unity and solidarity of our compatriots and their acting in a better organized manner, have entered a new phase.
Azerbaijanis across the world are already playing a more active role in socio-economic, socio-political and cultural life of the countries they live in, and are contributing much to expanding of their ties with Azerbaijan.
Our compatriots demonstrate steadfastness while bringing Azerbaijan`s realities to the notice of global community, popularizing our rich cultural heritage and preventing ideological sabotage of the aggressive Armenian circles.
At the same time, thanks to Azerbaijani state`s support, effective actions are being taken to build fruitful cooperation with lobbies and Diasporas of the brotherly nations.
Azerbaijani state, which is going through a stage of socio-economic and political development, has directed all its resources toward improving our people`s welfare and strengthening our country`s international position. Azerbaijan`s role in ensuring global energy security is steadily increasing. Socio-economic policy being carried out in the country opens up new opportunities for establishing modern infrastructure, solving social problems, developing science and culture and fully ensuring rights and freedoms of our citizens.
At this juncture, achieving soonest resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and “restoring” our country`s territorial integrity remain the major problem facing our people. I think that all our compatriots, along with the Azerbaijani state, will continue to step up their efforts in this area, care for more active popularization of our accomplishments and promote a positive image of our country. Our Diaspora should intensify its efforts to become even better organized and more flexible, expand ties with Diaspora centers in other cities and expose information sabotage against our country in a timely manner.
I call compatriots for a closer unity and call on them to continue contributing to the consistent protection of interest of our independent state and increasing its international prestige.
