UNDPI holds presentation of “Food security” program
Baku, September 28 (AZERTAC). A representation office of the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) in Baku and World Food Program (WFP) held a presentation on the “Food security” program.
Chief of WFP office in Baku Fuad Huseynov told of history, activity, mission and financial opportunities of the structure.
On main donors of WFP - USA, the European Commission, UN, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Germany and Sweden, Huseynov said in 2011 budget of the structure constituted $ 8 bn.
Huseynov noted that during 1994-2008s, WFP has rendered assistance to Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs ousted from their native lands as a result of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Now Azerbaijan is one of the donor countries, Huseynov added.
The participants watched a videofilm on the UN`s activity.
Azerbaijan is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013s.
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the food assistance branch of the United Nations, and the world`s largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger worldwide. WFP provides food, on average, to 90 million people per year, 58 million of whom are children. From its headquarters in Rome and more than 80 country offices around the world, WFP works to help people who are unable to produce or obtain enough food for themselves and their families. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group and part of its Executive Committee.
