Azerbaijani Minister of Education receives IB regional director

Baku, February 22 (AZERTAC). Adrian Kearney, International Baccalaureate Program`s (IB) regional director for Africa, Europe and the Middle East, visited Azerbaijani Ministry of Education where he met minister Misir Mardanov.

During the meeting, minister Maradanov spoke of the program, saying “Organized by the International Baccalaureate Office based in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous academic program emphasizing academic achievement, critical thinking, research skills and community service. Founded in 1968, the IB currently works with nearly 3,529 schools in 144 countries to develop and offer challenging programmes to over 1,000,000 students aged 3 to 19 years.”

The Programme (for students in their junior and senior year), to provide students with a balanced education, to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding, is a demanding two-year curriculum that meets the needs of highly motivated students, and leads to a qualification that is recognized by leading universities around the world.

The Minister also hailed the application of IB Program in Azerbaijan, expressing confidence it would be a success.

According to the Minister, the period of study for the IB program is 12 years and students who will successfully complete the program will be granted a certificate recognized not only in Azerbaijan. Noting the program is being implemented at one of the primary classes of school-lyceum No.6, the Minister underlined the first step has been met with great interest.

Kearney provided an insight into IB program and shared his views on mechanisms of the project.

According to him, the IB continuum of international education is unique because of its academic and personal rigour, challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal growth.

Adrian Kearney said, "These results reinforce yet again that the IB Diploma Programme gives students the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to excel. The programme truly prepares students for the working world."

The IB Primary Years Programme, for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

The IB Middle Years Programme, for students aged 11 to 16, provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers.

The IB Diploma Programme, for students aged 16 to 19, is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and beyond.

The IB Career-related Certificate, for students aged 16 to 19, is the newest offering from the IB. The IBCC incorporates the vision and educational principles of the IB Programmes into a unique offering specifically designed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning.
