BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “VARIOUS FORMS OF ISLAMOPHOBIA AND XENOPHOBIA”
International Conference on the subject “Various forms of islamophobia and xenophobia: influence on youth and the activity of the youth in preventing it” today has started in Baku under the slogan “Away from religious discrimination”.
About 124 delegates from 43 countries participate in the event organized by Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Youth and Sports, Council of Europe, ISESCO, the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation and the European Youth Forum.
Addressing the conference participants, Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov underlined that Azerbaijan is a wonderful model of tolerance and serves as an example to numerous countries.
Ralf-René Weingärtner, Director, COE Directorate of Youth and Sport, head of ISESCO Cabinet Ahmed Said, Secretary General of OIC Youth Forum “For dialogue and cooperation” Elshad Isgandarov emphasized that aim of the conference is to discuss issues on combat with islamophobia and xenophobia, other forms of religious intolerance, protection of human rights and other ones.
Conference participants will focus on cooperation between the youth organizations and institutions, and take measures to support intercultural and interreligious dialogue. Document titled “Baku youth initiative” to coordinate youth activity in the coming years is expected to be adopted here.
Azeri MPs, Chairman of the Clerical Office of Caucasian Muslims Allahshukur Pashazade, Head of Baku and littoral Caspian eparchy of Russian Orthodox church, farther Alexander, head of Azerbaijani mountainous Jews Semen Ikhilov, head of European Jews community Gennady Zelmanovich, head of Catholic church in Baku Yan Champla, ambassadors of the foreign countries and media outlets attended the conference.
