Azerbaijani delegation attends Alliance of civilizations forum of UN
Baku, March 4 (AZERTAC). As earlier reported, Vienna, Austria’s capital, hosted the fifth global forum of UN ‘Alliance of civilizations’ on 27-28 February.
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by a delegation headed by Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev.
The delegation included chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Elshad Isgandarov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev, Chief of the Foreign Ministry department Emil Hasanov, chief of the department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Vasif Eyvazzade.
Head of the Azerbaijani delegation A. Garayev addressed the forum.
The delegation met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, UN special envoy in the Alliance of Civilizations Nasir Abdulaziz al - Naser, UNESCO General Director Irina Bokova and other officials. The sides discussed prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Alliance of Civilizations.
Al-Naser received the invitation to take part in the second International Forum for Intercultural Dialogue due in Baku in May.
Minister Garayev told that Azerbaijan as a member of the Alliance took the active part in its activity. It was noted that the forum in Vienna held under the UN auspices was dedicated to such global aspects as intercultural and interreligious interaction, partnership in the sphere of media, regional integration on the basis of common historical and cultural prerequisites.
