PRESIDENT OF INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF LIBRARY ASSOCIATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS TO VISIT BAKU
Ellen Tise, president of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) on 24 November is to arrive in Baku, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said.
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. Founded in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1927, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions now functions in three world regions having separate offices. It has 1700 Members in 150 countries around the world. IFLA was registered in the Netherlands in 1971. The Royal Library, the national library of the Netherlands, in The Hague, generously provides the facilities for its Headquarters. IFLA president is elected once five year.
Senior Director, Library and Information Services, University Stellenbosch, South Africa, has been voted President-elect by IFLA members.
She will begin her two-year term (2007-2009) as President-elect during the IFLA conference in Durban this August.
She will succeed Claudia Lux as President in August 2009 for a two-year term, 2009-2011.
2 libraries of Azerbaijan - the M.F. Akhundov National Library and President Library are members of IFLA.
Last years, IFLA in associate with UNESCO pays huge attention to save cultural heritage, including libraries, museums, and archives.
In 2005, IFLA along with UNESCO has adopted the Charter To Protect Digital Heritage. The Organization initiated and adopted the Declaration on “Human Rights and Supremacy of Law” in the information society.
During her visit, Ms. Ellen Tise will meet with relevant republican structures, boost cooperation with the country`s libraries. She will attend a concert at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall, familiarize herself with the Azerbaijan National Library, as well as meet the Minister of Culture and visit the President Library.
