University of Aberdeen hosts celebrative event on Nowruz holiday
London, March 18 (AZERTAC). The Azerbaijani Society in the University of Aberdeen (ASUA) and Azerbaijan`s embassy to UK have co-organized a celebrative event to mark the Nowruz holiday.
Speaking at the event, chairwoman of the Society Nigar Dadashzade highlighting history of the holiday.
Azerbaijani student at the university Fuad Sultanov provided an insight into the traditions in Nowruz.
The participants were presented Azerbaijan-related souvenirs, as well as copies of “Ali and Nino” book by Gurban Said in English.
The event also featured performance of national dances by Azerbaijani students.
Dating back to ancient times, Nowruz has always been celebrated as the beginning of the new year by people all around the world.
Usually preparation for Nowruz begins a month prior to the festival. Each of forthcoming 4 weeks is devoted to one of the four elements and called accordingly in Azerbaijan. Each Tueasday people celebrate the day of one of the four elements- water, fire, earth and wind. The last and the most important Tuesday is devoted to wind and called Yel Charshanbasi or Ilakhir Chershenbe by Azerbaijani people.
