"Our cities are constantly facing increasingly complex challenges due to existing shortages and quality-related issues. Climate change is also leaving its mark on infrastructure and, naturally, on basic elementary services. Despite this, cities continue to play a central role as hubs of possibilities, opportunities, economic development, innovation, and sustainability," Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations Krzysztof Szczerski said during his speech at the ministerial meeting on the New Urban Agenda, chaired by Azerbaijan within the framework of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
"We must strive to ensure that wherever urban planning is implemented, social cohesion, economic opportunities, and resilience are equal for everyone. Today's agenda clearly demonstrates to us what urban resilience should look like.
After all, nature can always present us with surprises. Implementing the New Urban Agenda should not just be carried out at the central government level, but at the local government level as well," Szczerski added.
The Permanent Representative emphasized that regional authorities, civil society, the private sector, and UN agencies must operate in unison. "Our forum today is a testament to this necessity. The discussions held here and our ongoing cooperation will serve to yield high-level, impactful results," he concluded.
